Three Kent boozers are currently in the running to be named among the nation’s very best in a prestigious awards ceremony. The finalists for the Great British Pub Awards 2024 have now been announced, highlighting some of the most exceptional venues in the industry.
Every year, the awards recognise the hard work and dedication of the nation’s best watering holes, shining a light on the teams that go the extra mile in a night of glitz and glamour unlike any other. Each entrant goes through a rigorous judging process before they can land a spot among the finalists, which includes site visits and interviews with staff.
A spokesperson for the Great British Pub Awards said: “Our 2024 finalists have now been announced! We’d like to say a HUGE congratulations to all of the incredible pubs that have made it this far – you brilliant pub owners and operators truly are the backbone of this historic industry. Keep it up!”
Representing Kent, The Rising Sun in Rochester, found on the corner of King Street and Delce Road, is up for the Admiral Taverns Pub of the Year Award. Reacting to the news, The Rising Sun team said: “We are so very proud to have been nominated and in the Top 5! Thank you to all of our amazing customers.”
Last year, the Rochester pub re-opened after an extensive £280k revamp and has grown an impressive reputation thanks to its live music nights and quizzes, as well as the expansive outdoor seating area. Situated within a striking Victorian building with a distinct historic charm, punters have raved about their experiences at The Rising Sun and the pub currently holds a TripAdvisor rating of 4.5 stars out of five.
One reviewer described it as a “real hidden gem”, and went on to say: “The atmosphere is always incredible and everyone is so welcoming. The pub itself has a really cosy feel with amazing décor throughout. All the staff are really friendly and you genuinely feel like part of their family. Would 100% recommend it”

Meanwhile, two pubs in historic Kent areas have made it to the finals as well. The Kings Arms in Bexleyheath has been nominated for the Best Town Pub Award, while The Guy Earl of Warwick in Welling will be battling it out to be named Best Community Pub of the year.
All the winners of these coveted accolades will be announced at the awards ceremony on September 17 at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester. Organisers added: “We have a truly unforgettable evening planned that will give pub teams an ideal place to network and enjoy a fantastic night together.”
Previous ceremonies have seen celebrity guests in attendance, such as comedian Hugh Dennis, alongside live music performances and other exciting entertainment. Tickets for the awards ceremony are on sale now and full details can be found here.
