There are also rumours of a new Victoria’s Secret
An exact date has been set for the opening of a new budget health and beauty store in a Kent city centre.
Savers is launching a branch in Canterbury, taking over the space that previously held Poundworld on the High Street between Card Factory and the Abode hotel.
Set to open its doors on Thursday, February 26, customers can expect to find a range of health, beauty and homeware products within.
The discount chain stocks a variety of toiletries, perfumes, cleaning products, medicine, skin care, makeup, hair products, food, drinks and pet products.
Poundworld closed its doors back in the summer of 2018, with the unit standing empty for a number of years before the space was finally repurposed in the winter of 2024.
Home Store temporarily took over the spacious unit, offering kitchenware, decorations, bedding, gardening supplies, electronics, toys and gifts.
The store, recognisable thanks to its distinct red shopfront, was short-lived however and closed in 2025. Works are currently underway to refit the unit in time for the launch of Savers, with signage displaying the brand’s logo now in place.
Savers already operates a number of stores across Kent, including in Gravesend, Gillingham, Ashford, Deal and Maidstone to name a few.
This is not the only new opening on the horizon for Canterbury city centre as River Island in the Whitefriars Shopping Centre is set to close its doors on Tuesday, February 17 and it is believed that leading underwear and lingerie retailer Victoria’s Secret is eyeing a takeover of the unit.
