The 10 best places to live in Kent in 2024 according to Muddy Stilletto’s

We Kent residents obviously know that our humble county is one of the greatest parts of the UK that you can live. But, where exactly is the best place to plant your roots in the Garden of England?

It seems an answer to that very question has been found as the 10 ‘best places to live in Kent’ have been named in a new ranking from Muddy Stilettos. Praising the ‘rolling hills, vineyards and orchards of west Kent to the cool, coastal towns and creative vibe of east Kent’, the popular travel blog has revealed its updated list for 2024, and there have been some noticeable changes from last year.

What’s On gurus at Muddy Stilettos announced the list and described it as “essential reading”. They said: “We’ve used our unrivalled insider local knowledge on schools, shops, commutes, culture, and eating out to shortlist 260 gorgeous villages, towns and cities across our 28 ‘Muddy’ counties and beyond.”

A number of popular entries from around the county that had appeared in the previous ranking have now been dropped. This includes Kent’s one and only city of Canterbury, as well as Deal, Goudhurst and West Malling.

Finding a place on the 2024 list in their stead are Ickham, Tankerton, Westerham and Cranbrook. Meanwhile, the likes of Tunbridge Wells, Folkestone, Faversham, Sevenoaks, Speldhurst and Tenterden have successfully retained their position on the ranking.

New addition Tankerton was described by Muddy Stilettos as: “The seaside suburb of one of Kent’s most celebrated and stylish seaside towns. Think coastal cool, foodie reputation and community spirit.”

It was praised for its easy access to all Whitstable has to offer, from the varied food scene to amazing attractions such as Whitstable Castle. The ranking added: “Move here and you’ll have all the benefits of this popular destination, but you can escape the crowds.”

Ickham meanwhile was praised as a ‘pretty medieval village in an idyllic countryside setting five miles east of Canterbury, on the bank of the Little Stour with foodie gems nearby’. It was also recognised for its numerous stunning walks and described as a ‘gastro-pub heaven’.

Muddy Stilettos noted Westerham as ‘small, but perfectly formed’, adding that it offers a ‘real taste of the county’ just a short distance away from London. Finally, ‘rural gem’ Cranbrook was regarded for its strong community spirit situated within an ‘idyllic rural setting’.
