Dates set for openings of Victoria’s Secret and Rawr Beauty in Canterbury

The two shops are headed to a popular shopping centre in the city

Exact dates have been set for the hotly-anticipated launches of two brands at a popular Kent shopping centre. Victoria’s Secret and Rawr Beauty are headed to the Whitefriars Shopping Centre in Canterbury and shoppers will not have much longer to wait as both will be opening this May.

The leading lingerie and underwear brand, which is taking over the former River Island store between Pandora and ProCook, will welcome its first customers from Thursday, May 21. Following River Island’s closure in February this year, word soon spread that Victoria’s Secret was eyeing a takeover of the unit with multiple job listings for the brand in Canterbury adding weight to the rumblings.

The opening was then confirmed by Whitefriars bosses in March and signage for the international brand now covers the store as works to transform the site ahead of the launch continue. The store will stock a range of lingerie, sleepwear, activewear and beauty products from across the brand’s signature collections.

Chris Ebdon, head of retail at Victoria’s Secret UK, said: “We are delighted to be opening our new store in Canterbury. Whitefriars offers an exciting and well-established retail environment, and this new store will allow us to better serve our customers across Kent while welcoming new shoppers to experience the Victoria’s Secret brand.

“We look forward to bringing our full lifestyle offering including lingerie, sleepwear, activewear, and beauty products to Canterbury and becoming part of the city’s vibrant retail scene.” Natasha Hamilton, director of asset management at NewRiver, which runs the Canterbury shopping centre, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome Victoria’s Secret to Whitefriars, further enhancing the already stellar retail offer in Canterbury.

“Following the openings of Urban Outfitters, Space NK, Pro Cook and Brook Tavener last year, Victoria’s Secret is yet another great reason to visit Whitefriars and Canterbury. We’re delighted to have secured a raft of compelling new brands for the centre, and now fully let, Whitefriars has firmly established itself as a go-to retail destination in area and we look forward to the opening of Victoria’s Secret this summer.”

Rawr Beauty meanwhile is taking over part of the former Beaverbrooks unit adjacent to Lovisa and will open its doors on Friday, May 29. The shop will offer a range of services and treatments to customers including brows, lashes, nails, facials, waxing and massages.

Natasha Hamilton, added: “We’re incredibly excited to welcome Rawr Beauty to Whitefriars. Their fresh and inclusive take on beauty aligns perfectly with our vision to bring innovative and engaging brands to Canterbury.

“We’re confident they’ll be a fantastic addition for our visitors, and its new location will provide customers with the opportunity to discover the brand in an exciting and interactive environment”. Alongside the variety of services, the shop will stock a range of health and beauty products including nail kits, make-up tools, hair accessories and more.
